Dear Live Oak Families:
Welcome back, Live Oak community! On behalf of the Live Oak Education Fund, I wanted to say thank you to all of those who supported the Live Oak Education Fund during the 2022 - 2023 school year. Live Oak is now a California Distinguished School.
With your donations, we were able to raise ~$201,847 during the 2022-2023 school year, investing that directly back into your children and the school.
Although the donations were initially below our forecasted plan, we were able to continue to support staffing across the board for para educators, vocal music teacher, and the art teacher by hosting additional fundraising events, as well as pulling from LOEF reserves. We were able to continue to support the increase of the librarian’s hours on campus that enriches the library programs available to the students. The Live Oak Education fund was also able to support the replacement of the school supplied headphones provided for each student to use at school utilizing the funds raised through our winter online auction. We continued to fund teacher grants to help enhance the learning experience, assist in funding the Soul Shoppe program provided to the students, as well as fund classroom supplies for all students.
As we transition into the 2023-2024 school year, we want to officially welcome our Live Oak community back. The greatest assets we have at Live Oak have been, and will continue to be, the amazing teachers and staff that we entrust our children’s learning and development to. Ensuring they have everything needed to achieve a robust learning environment for our children, while also providing parents with supportive resources, remains our top focus.
This board is committed to be fluid in deploying the capital resources where they are needed when clear needs are identified to the teachers and staff of Live Oak Elementary. As part of SRVEF Affiliates, we as a community unite under the mission for the upcoming school year to work together and focus on making school an equitable space for all, promoting deep learning and innovation, as well as supporting student social emotional well-being.
As we prepare for the upcoming year with continued reduced enrollment, as families move and transition to other educational systems, your donations have never been more important. We have been able to navigate the previous years without operating in a large deficit due to ongoing efforts to secure all staffing we commit to supporting at Live Oak. With this upcoming school year, all positions will be accounted for, and therefore community contribution is imperative. Here is some additional context on how your donations will be used and applied in the upcoming school year:
1. Supplies: As in years past, all school supplies will be purchased for each student.
2. Art Instruction: All Grade levels will receive art instruction.
3. Science: All Grade levels will receive one block of Science instruction per week with Ed Fund-provided teaching supplies.
4. Para Educators: Paras will be available to teachers at all Grade levels to support activities as required.
5. Grants: The Live Oak Education Foundation will continue to make available special teacher grants to implement and pilot various instruction/learning programs to help ensure students are getting the most out of their learning.
6. Music: All Grade levels will receive one block of vocal music instruction per week.
7. Librarian: Increased staffing hours on campus to develop and implement library programs for all students on campus.
We hope the Live Oak community will step up its participation during registration to ensure no cut occurs to the important programs upon which your students rely.
What can you do?
To continue all the important programs LOEF has historically supported, we need EVERYONE’s support, so please make a donation! This year we are asking each family to donate $595 per student at fall registration or $995 per family, if more than one student from the same family.
That breaks down to less than a cup of coffee a day! We understand a single payment may be an issue, so we have extended the payment options to break this payment out over 6 payments.
This requested donation amount reflects the true cost of maintaining the level of curriculum and programming that have made students so successful at Live Oak. The money raised at registration in August will be used to fulfill the immediate student needs this school year. This will allow for a more enriching and innovative learning experience for our children. In addition to the normal activities, we are also continually evaluating programs and needs that arise based on each school year.
In addition to the donations we receive at registration, you can also double your Ed Fund donation through an employer company match. Check to see if your company has a corporate match program or email us and we can help you find out. Please make sure that during registration, both parents’ and employer’s information are listed in the system. This will allow us to send you the automated information for steps required with each employer.
Our goal for the 2023-24 school year is to raise a minimum of $250,000 to cover otherwise unfunded expenses. The funds are categorized, but are not limited to, the following categories: Salaries of staff not paid by SRVUSD ($175,000)
Without your support, your students will have reduced or no access to these services as the district provides limited budget for these staff:
● Classroom Para Educators ● Art Teacher ● Music Teacher ● Expanded Librarian Hours
Supplies ($60,000)
● All School/Classroom Supplies ● Art Supplies ● Science equipment and lab supplies ● Classroom Leveled Libraries
Operating Expenses ($15,000)
● Eagle’s Nest ● Soul Shopper ● Software ● Teacher Grants (e.g. Headphones, Gardening project) ● Technology Upgrade (e.g. 3D printers)
